The liberty
The image of Marianne finds its origin in antiquity. The Phrygian cap
was worn by liberated slaves of the roman empire. Her naked breast,
symbol of emancipation and her first name, Marianne, widespread in the
popular background, compare her with a revolutionary, protector of the
republic, for witch she'll become the allegoric figure after the popular
revolution of 1830.
Marianne has survived five republics and various disruptions of history.
She represents the french republican values of the motto: liberty, equality,
fraternity. She is ardent, warrior, protector and conciliator. She has
qualities from the Goddess of greek and roman antiquity and the virgin
Mary.
She represents also the revenge of low class people against the upper
class, the fight for liberty, and the cousciousness of citizenship.
