The Valkyrie
In the nordic mythology, on the origin and the end of the world, there is an assembly of feminine spirits, the valkyries, virgin warriors with magical powers, who choose dead bodies on the battlefield and guided the heros into the Valhalla. They are either horse riding noblewomen, holding spares or terrifying giants, appearing in dreams, spilling blood, predicting massacres and mounted on wolves.
Valkyries are also prince's supernatural wifes and teach them the art of war. Freyja, Goddess of the « Vanes », whose name means « lady » or « to give », honored by evryone, regarded as having freely granted her favours to all Gods and human kings. Associated to wealth, she cried golden tears because of the hard character of her husband, Odus, the restless God. She accorded fertility to earth and sea. The worship of Freyja was connected to the symbol of passion and compassion, to the protection of the family, to lust and black magic. She was brave, and her anger could be terrifying. She always obtained what she wanted and did not hesitate to sleep with 4 dwarves to obtain Brisingamen, the priceless necklace.
